Rhode Island approves winter electric bill credits

Rhode Island residential customers can expect winter electric-bill credits after the Public Utilities Commission approved a $28 million relief plan. Eligible Rhode Island Energy accounts are scheduled to receive $20.45 in January, February and March 2027, for a total of $61.35 per account.

The credits are expected to reach more than 450,000 customers. A separate settlement is expected to add about $14 per month beginning in October, so the two programs could provide roughly $34 in combined monthly relief during the winter months.
