Pinterest Introduces a New Advertising Opportunity for Brands to Promote Creator Content

Pinterest is making it easier for brands to discover and promote content created by influencers through a new paid advertising feature. The update allows businesses to turn existing creator Pins into advertisements, even if they do not have an existing sponsorship or partnership with the creator.

Previously, brands mainly relied on paid-partnership Pins, where creators tagged businesses as part of an established collaboration. With this new feature, advertisers can explore eligible organic Pins that already showcase or relate to their products and use them in paid campaigns. This gives brands access to a wider range of authentic creator content without having to commission entirely new posts.

Creators Remain in Control of Their Content

Pinterest has also introduced permission controls to ensure creators have a choice in how their content is promoted. Whenever a brand wants to advertise an eligible Pin, the creator receives an email notification and can decide whether to allow the promotion. Creators can also disable brand promotion through their account's Content Permissions settings.

The platform encourages creators to include relevant brand names in their Pin titles and descriptions, create shoppable content and maintain brand-friendly profiles to improve their chances of being discovered by advertisers.

Does This Feature Offer Direct Earnings to Creators?

Although the update creates new opportunities for content visibility, it does not automatically guarantee additional income for creators. Pinterest's current guidelines do not specify that creators receive a share of the advertising budget when brands promote their Pins. Any financial compensation would still need to be arranged separately through an agreement between the creator and the brand.

For businesses, the feature provides a convenient way to extend the reach of existing creator content through paid advertising. For influencers, it offers greater exposure and the possibility of attracting new brand partnerships.

This development highlights Pinterest's growing focus on creator-led advertising, bringing organic content and paid brand campaigns closer together while giving creators greater control over how their work is used.
