Alaska Man Sentenced in CSAM and AI Abuse Image Case
Anchorage resident Anthaney O’Connor sentenced to 70 months in prison for CSAM offenses involving AI-generated abuse images.
An Anchorage, Alaska man has been sentenced to 70 months in federal prison and 20 years of supervised release after being convicted in a child exploitation case involving child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and AI-generated illegal content.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced on June 3, 2026, that 32-year-old Anthaney O’Connor received the sentence after pleading guilty on July 31, 2025, to receiving child sexual abuse material.
According to court documents, O’Connor obtained CSAM from another offender who was serving as an active-duty Airman at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska. Investigators said the material included images involving prepubescent children.
Federal authorities also uncovered communications indicating that O’Connor and the other offender planned to use virtual reality technology to view illegal material. Prosecutors further alleged that O’Connor distributed CSAM to other individuals and possessed multiple AI-generated images depicting the sexual abuse of children.
The Justice Department noted that the case highlights growing concerns over the misuse of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and virtual reality platforms, in child exploitation offenses. Officials emphasized that AI-generated child sexual abuse material remains subject to federal enforcement efforts.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI and the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI). The case was prosecuted by the Department of Justice’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section alongside the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Alaska.
The prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative focused on combating online child exploitation and identifying offenders who target children through digital platforms.
